Moon Panda Announce New Album Dumb Luck and Share Single “Superstore” (Album Out This Week!)

Dream pop quartet Moon Panda returned with their new single “Superstore,” taken from their upcoming third album Dumb Luck, which will be released on September 26 (Tomorrow) via Moon Panda/Virgin Music Group. Alongside the release, the California/Danish band also added Texas shows to their fall U.S. tour.

Singer Maddy Myers described the single by saying, “‘Superstore’ is about the micro moments of wanting to convince your partner of what you can be for them. I told our producer I wanted the chorus to feel like that scene in the movie Challengers where they are outside and the trash is blowing everywhere. Total chaos and longing.”

Much of Dumb Luck was recorded at the home studio of Myers and guitarist Gustav Moltke. Bassist and keyboardist George Godwin also produced, with Josh Cabitac on drums. The band later worked with producer Adam Thein (Djo), who also collaborated with them on their 2023 album Sing Spaceship, Sing!. The result is a record that blends lush textures with emotional weight, drawing inspiration from bands like The Cardigans and The Carpenters.

Myers reflected on the collaborative spirit of the record: “‘Dumb Luck’ is probably the most collaborative album we’ve made as a band. It has little pieces of all of us within it and feels really special. It’s got my softness and introspection, Gustav’s humour and explosiveness, Josh’s thoughtful precision, and George’s wonky wizardry just kind of blankets over everything. I hope people can feel the care and love that went into these songs that mean so much to us as a collective.”

Since 2023, Myers and Moltke have relocated to Southern California and started a family. That change deeply shaped the record. “Holy moly, becoming a mom is the best thing to ever happen to me but damn, those first months postpartum were so hard,” Myers explained. “It was like losing yourself, your creative identity, and then finding it again in a completely new way.”

For Moon Panda, Dumb Luck represents both artistic growth and personal transformation. The album reflects the balance of struggle and joy while capturing the closeness of a band that continues to evolve together.
