Detroit ska-punk group The Boy Detective has revealed details for their upcoming album Disco Lunch, due November 7, 2025, on Punkerton Records. The announcement arrives with the release of the lead single “Beth Truss” and its accompanying video, giving fans their first taste of the band’s latest chapter.
Recorded by Roger Lima of Less Than Jake and finalized by Eric Taft, “Beth Truss” channels the group’s signature chaos into a sharp, horn-driven anthem. The arrangement leans on brisk percussion, tightly woven brass melodies, and shouted gang vocals designed for sweaty basement shows. It’s a song that thrives on immediacy, leaving little room for pause as it drives forward with ska-core urgency.
Vocalist Benny Capaul explains the origins of the track: “This ancient song was taken off the shelf, dusted off, and reformatted to sonically invoke singalongs and brain-eating choruses and gang vocals, in the only way The Boy Detective knows best. You’ll find yourself screaming these gang vocals and wanting to rage. In Beth we Truss!”
Disco Lunch follows the band’s 2024 album Art Theft and expands on their established mix of humor, hooks, and headbang-ready ska punk. Spanning nearly two decades of riffs and ideas, the record blends new compositions with revived material from the band’s vault. Capaul describes it as a maximalist effort: “When we say we threw everything and the kitchen sink in, we meant it. Disco Lunch is ten songs that span almost two decades. We opened the vault, collected, and distributed these gems for you. Let’s boogie!”
Since forming in 2021, The Boy Detective has grown from a home-recording project into a seven-piece powerhouse. Their blend of horns, humor, and high-speed rhythms has fueled a loyal following across the Midwest ska scene. With Disco Lunch, the group is pushing their sound further than ever, sharpening their ska-core edge while keeping the playful personality that has defined them from the start.
