Yawn Mower, the quirky rock band from Asbury Park, shared their newest single “Geothermal Springs” and its music video this summer. The song came from their second album I Just Can’t Wait To Die, which is dropping on August 15th, 2025, through Mint 400 Records. Fans heard “Geothermal Springs” after the band dropped “Rascal,” a catchy alt-rock tune praised for its punchy guitars and big choruses.
Singer and guitarist Mike Chick said “Geothermal Springs” started when Biff Swenson’s girlfriend traveled to Iceland for photos. Foss, the Icelandic word for waterfall, inspired the line, “Wish that I was with you for the foss.” Mike wrote the rest while living a normal day—ordering Chinese food, hanging out at the arcade, and gardening. He joked that the hot air balloon line was pure imagination, since he had never been in one.
Yawn Mower formed in 2015 and made waves in New Jersey’s music scene. Over the years, they released a few EPs and their first album To Each Their Own Coat in 2022. They played shows with well-known groups like Mannequin Pussy, Oso Oso, The Good Life, and Hot Snakes. Their new album keeps their fuzzy guitar sound but mixed in strings and rougher edges, making it louder and more energetic.
The band started writing most of I Just Can’t Wait To Die after playing their biggest show yet at the Sea.Hear.Now festival in Asbury Park in 2023. Feeling inspired, they wanted songs that fit big stages. Except for drums, which they recorded with Evan Bernard (known for Mannequin Pussy and Soul Glow), they made the whole album themselves—recording, mixing, and mastering every piece.
This album was also their most team-focused work. While Mike and Biff began Yawn Mower, other members Dana Yurcisin (bass), Rudy Meier (guitar), and Nicole Scorsone (violin) helped shape the songs from the start. Mike believed this gave the record a fuller, more unique feel that showed off everyone’s specific talents.
Yawn Mower will play their album release show in Asbury Park on August 30th and then are embarking on a tour of the East Coast through September. Check the dates below and enjoy their newest single:
