Dead Tooth Explored a Titanic Legend in New Single “Jack Dawson” — Debut Album and Tour Announced

New York City’s post punk heroes Dead Tooth released their new single “Jack Dawson”  in June. The song looked at the deeper story behind the famous Titanic character from the blockbuster movie. The music video for “Jack Dawson” is below for your viewing pleasure. The track is part of Dead Tooth’s first full album, Dead Tooth, which drops on July 18 via Trash Casual Records.

Dead Tooth’s singer and songwriter, Zach Ellis, wrote “Jack Dawson” during the pandemic lockdown. He spent that time thinking about how Titanic shaped his life. Ellis wondered if the character Jack Dawson made him believe in being free and reckless when he was young. He asked himself if Dawson was truly a romantic hero or just running from his problems. Ellis wrote the song while stuck in his apartment, watching old shows and drinking mezcal.

Dead Tooth’s debut album played like an old action film. The songs felt big, bold, and a little dark. Ellis’s voice cut through harsh guitar sounds and loud saxophone parts. The music captured feelings of chaos and hope during hard times. Each song felt like a piece of a bigger story about people trying to survive in a troubled world.

Dead Tooth started years ago when Ellis and DIIV guitarist Andrew Bailey worked at a diner in Brooklyn. They turned their talks into songs and formed a full band. They released two EPs, Still Beats in 2018 and Pig Pile in 2022. Over time, the band’s sound got sharper and more intense. They toured all over the East Coast, Europe, and the UK. They even played shows with heavy metal legends GWAR and rap icon Juellz Santana among others all the while filling Brooklyn's hottest scene spots with plenty of fans hungry for whatever the band was offering up.

Dead Tooth’s first full album was recorded in studios across New York from 2022 to 2024. Tom Beaujour (Guided By Voices, Nada Surf Producer) mixed the album and kept it sounding real and gritty. With eleven strong tracks, Dead Tooth brought the feeling of a wild Brooklyn show right to listeners at home. The band also announced a fall U.S. tour starting September 28 in New Orleans.
