Connecticut indie rock band The Inside Out just released their newest song, “The Way It Was,” the fourth single from their upcoming album. The song blends emotional lyrics with warm, upbeat melodies that make it perfect for summer playlists.
Lead singer James Howard says the song is about looking back at happy memories and learning to enjoy the moment while it lasts. He shared that the loss of his brother helped shape the song’s meaning, reminding him how important it is to spend time with the people you love before it’s too late.
“The Way It Was” follows past singles “Mr. Arrogant,” “Too Late,” and “Good Times,” which helped bring attention to the band’s thoughtful songwriting and colorful sound. Their music mixes feelings of joy, sadness, and reflection and is perfect for fans of bands like Brand New and Modest Mouse.
The band is made up of four members: James Howard, John Landino, Andi Wright, and Zack Apuzzo. Each member brings different experiences to the group, and together they create songs that feel both exciting and emotional. Their style is known for being energetic and heartfelt, with catchy guitar lines and expressive vocals.
Since forming, The Inside Out has played all over the New York tri-state area. They’ve performed at big events like the Launch Music Conference in Pennsylvania and CT Rocks Fest, and helped raise money at Quinnipiac University’s Music for Meals fundraiser.
On June 19, they’ll perform at Toad’s Place, one of Connecticut’s most famous music venues, for the Battle of the Bands competition. This will be their first time playing there.
The band released their first album, No Brains, No Blood, in 2022. Now, fans are waiting for their second album, which is planned for release later this year.
