Brooklyn-based indie rock band Whitehall has returned with their new single, "Malibu #2," a track that captures the tension between adventure and reality. The song is the first preview of their upcoming album, set for release later this year.
Written while touring the West Coast, "Malibu #2" channels the restless energy of the road. With bright, driving guitars and an urgent rhythm, the song feels like motion itself—always moving forward but never quite arriving. The lyrics deliver a sharp contrast to the sunny sound, with frontman Paddy McKiernan singing, "I never want to play in Malibu again!" It’s a tongue-in-cheek reflection on the illusion of escape, as bassist Brennan Clark explains: "You get out, but your issues are still there. When you come home, everyone has grown, but you feel stuck. That frustration fuels the song."
Whitehall—made up of McKiernan (vocals, guitar), Avery Greeson (guitar), Brennan Clark (bass), and Davis Rowe (drums)—has built a reputation for blending raw emotion with catchy, layered instrumentation. The band has earned praise from outlets like NPR, Alternative Press, and American Songwriter, and has shared stages with acts like Goo Goo Dolls, Arlie, and Carver Commodore. Their music balances garage rock grit with refined, soaring melodies, creating songs that hit with both immediacy and depth.
The upcoming album promises to expand on this approach, offering more introspection alongside their signature energy. “Malibu #2” is a strong first step in that direction—both playful and personal, it highlights Whitehall’s ability to turn everyday experiences into anthems.
For fans of alternative rock with both punch and purpose, Whitehall continues to be a band to watch. Their music captures the push and pull of modern life—excitement, anxiety, movement, and reflection—without losing the joy of loud, impassioned rock. “Malibu #2” is streaming now, and with a new album on the way, Whitehall is ready for their next chapter.
Tour dates and more details on the album are expected soon. Until then, turn up "Malibu #2" and let it take you somewhere new—even if you end up right back where you started.
