Brooklyn’s Strange Neighbors are tapping into a rich history of pop-punk storytelling with their latest single, "Hate Me Less." Released in early March, the song arrives alongside the announcement of their upcoming album, People Pleasers Pleasing People, set to drop on April 18th via Mint 400 Records.
Premiering last month, "Hate Me Less" takes a fresh perspective on a breakup. Instead of resentment, the song leans into regret and self-awareness, offering an introspective take on ending a relationship. "Parked, lights off in the 7-Eleven lot," sings frontwoman Aidan Strange, setting a scene of quiet reflection. As the song builds, she wrestles with the weight of unfulfilled promises and the fear of causing harm: "When promises get too big they turn into lies / And you know I've never been good at goodbyes." The chorus swells into a full-band moment, capturing both urgency and emotional weight.
Aidan describes the song as a reflection on past relationships and the difficulty of making tough choices. "I was putting off ending it for too long, worried about hurting the person, but in the end hurting us both worse," she explains. This mix of self-doubt and hopefulness defines much of the band’s upcoming record. People Pleasers Pleasing People explores themes of disillusionment, control, and navigating difficult emotions, all wrapped in energetic hooks and sharp melodies. “Life is too short to not still try and dance,” highlighting the band’s balance of serious subject matter with infectious energy.
Recorded with longtime collaborator Mike Dwyer at The Bunker Recordings in Catskill, NY, the album leans into rich harmonies and dynamic arrangements. Their latest single follows January’s "Influencer," with one final preview, "Without a Head," set for release on April 3rd.
Strange Neighbors will celebrate their album release on April 17th at The Sultan Room in Brooklyn as they co-headline with Brooklyn favs Two-Man Giant Squid at an all Mint 400 Records Showcase.
