Seattle’s Museum Of Light has shared their latest single, “Born All Wrong,” from their upcoming sophomore album, Diviner, set for release on March 14 via Spartan Records. The track expands on the band’s signature blend of massive riffs and shimmering melodies, pushing their sound into even more dynamic territory.
Produced by Scott Evans (Sumac, Thrice, Kowloon Walled City), Diviner is an 11-track album that builds on the foundation set by their debut, Horizon. Drummer Rob Smith describes the record as a deeper exploration of the band’s core elements. “‘Born All Wrong’ takes everything we loved from the first record and pushes it further. The heavy parts are heavier, the pretty parts are prettier, and we even experimented with different tunings and textures,” he explains. The track features guest vocals from Elissa Alvarez, who appears throughout the album, as well as field recordings of crashing waves and seabirds captured outside their studio.
Museum Of Light’s sound is both crushing and ethereal, layering thick, sludgy guitars with haunting vocals and atmospheric flourishes. Critics have noted their ability to balance heaviness with melody, with Revolver describing them as “a melodic crusher” and Decibel calling their music “haunting and heavy.” Their ability to craft songs that feel both weighty and expansive makes them stand out in the modern heavy music scene.
The album was recorded at Ocean Sound studio in Giske, Norway, a setting that influenced the band’s creative process. The remote location, surrounded by towering peaks and icy fjords, provided a natural backdrop that seeped into the music. Daily cold plunges in the Norwegian Sea became part of the band’s routine, a ritual encouraged by Evans that added a physical and mental edge to their recording sessions.
With Diviner, Museum Of Light refines their approach while embracing new sonic possibilities. “Born All Wrong” showcases their ability to create music that is both weighty and delicate, offering a listening experience that shifts between towering riffs and ghostly melodies. For fans of dynamic, textured heavy music, this is a band worth following.
