Baltimore hardcore band JIVEBOMB has shared their latest single, "ESTRELA," along with a video that captures their aggressive live performance. The track is from their upcoming debut album, ETHEREAL, which arrives on March 28th via Flatspot Records. Following last month’s crushing lead single, "SURVIVAL AIN’T TAUGHT," the new song is another example of the band's raw, high-speed sound. Clocking in at just over a minute, "ESTRELA" delivers an intense mix of fury and tension, blending relentless instrumentation with lyrics that reflect on change and personal growth.
The video, directed by Noah Haycock and filmed by James Carline, Rob Silverstein, and Greyson Pearce, highlights JIVEBOMB’s relentless stage presence. Vocalist Kat explains that the lyrics to "ESTRELA" had been written for a while, influenced by a period of listening to Billie Holiday. Kat references Holiday’s lyric, “Angels have no thoughts of ever returning you – would they be angry if I thought of joining you?” and connects it to the song’s theme of shedding an old self to move forward. It’s a rare moment of reflection within JIVEBOMB’s otherwise relentless sound, but it fits perfectly within their approach—direct, forceful, and unafraid of weighty themes. It's often odd how a jazz artist like Holiday inspires brutal metal, but alas, it's hard to pin down how inspiration comes to any artist.
Produced by Ben Greenberg (Uniform) at Circular Ruin in Brooklyn, ETHEREAL spans ten tracks and clocks in at just thirteen minutes, keeping the band’s fast and abrasive style intact. Pulling from hardcore, grindcore, and heavier experimental influences, the album expands on the foundation JIVEBOMB built with their 2021 demo and 2022's Primitive Desires EP.
