Merry Cherry Bomb, the solo project of multi-instrumentalist Allie Gardner, and today at BMN we are premiering the music video for the shoegaze/dream pop single “Afterglow.” The video, which is part of her new Spring EP, is a visual treat that matches the dreamy and layered sound of the track.
In an exclusive interview, Allie Gardner shared the inspiration behind the video. She explained, “In producing this video for Afterglow, I was inspired by the implied double meaning of the title; an afterglow after a psychedelic adventure but also a romantic afterglow."
The video does a fantastic job of capturing both meanings of the song’s title. The psychedelic elements are brought to life with colorful, swirling effects, while the romantic “afterglow” is represented through calming visuals. The video represents a journey through various spaces and seasons in an ethereal way matching the songs energy.
Merry Cherry Bomb’s sound is a mix of bedroom pop, baroque pop, and Motown influences. “Afterglow,” with its rich layers of dreamy vocals and instruments, perfectly showcases the bold and personal storytelling that Allie Gardner is known for. This song is the second single off her Spring EP, which is the first release in a four-part series that will represent each season. The song has a strong Cocteau Twins vibe and captures the modern shoegaze revival perfectly.
Fans of Merry Cherry Bomb can look forward to more music that blends nostalgic vibes with new, exciting sounds coming up in a few months. With the release of Spring, Allie Gardner’s vision for Merry Cherry Bomb is just beginning to unfold, and the “Afterglow” video is an incredible glimpse into what’s to come.
