Swami John Reis Unleashes Electrifying Debut Album with Swami & The Bed of Nails

Swami & The Bed of Nails, the latest project from punk veteran Swami John Reis (of Drive Like Jehu, Hot Snakes, Rocket from the Crypt, among others), has officially announced their debut album, ‘All of This Awaits You’. Set to release on Friday, August 2 via Swami/BMG, this album promises to be a high-energy exploration of punk rock with Reis’s distinctive touch.

Emerging from the final writing sessions of Hot Snakes in 2023, All of This Awaits You takes on a life of its own. Following the loss of longtime collaborator Rick Froberg, Reis found himself reflecting on their journey, which shaped this album into what he describes as “a growing tributary.” The nine tracks on the album are not just a tribute but a reinvention, capturing the raw spirit of punk while infusing it with a sense of nostalgia and forward-thinking hope.

The album's lead single, “Privacy,” is now streaming online, and it delivers exactly what fans expect from Reis—high-octane garage punk with a relentless drive. The track sets the tone for the rest of the album, which celebrates the simplicity and innocence of rock 'n' roll while mocking the superficial ambitions of modernity.

Produced by Reis and mixed by Ben Moore, All of This Awaits You features a stellar lineup of collaborators. Joe Guevara returns on piano and synthesizer, adding a buzzing synth edge and reedy organ to the mix. The dynamic drumming duo of Jason Koukounis and Richard Larson provides both explosive and laid-back beats, while Tommy Kitsos’s expansive basslines ground the sound. Mark Murino’s second guitar introduces a timeless element, blending seamlessly with the ensemble.

Notably, the album also features contributions from Rob Crow, Anthony Anzaldo, and Jacob Turnbloom, bringing additional layers of texture and creativity. The result is a record that feels both familiar and innovative, a punk rock time capsule that refuses to be easily categorized.

Reis’s journey with this album is deeply personal. "When Rick [Froberg] suddenly passed, I was completely heartbroken and shellshocked," he recalls. Finishing the album became a form of therapy, a way to navigate his grief and channel his emotions into something tangible. "This record is the songs of that tributary," Reis explains. "In November 2023, I decided to finish it and turn it into something."

All of This Awaits You is more than just a collection of songs—it's a testament to resilience, friendship, and the enduring power of punk rock. As Reis and his band hit the road to share this new music, the album stands as a reminder that even in the face of loss, there is always something to look forward to.
