BAND: THE NATURAL LINES

BloodMakesNoise Rating: 9.9/10

Genre: Indie Rock, Indie Pop

What the band says they sound like: A genuine rebirth for Pond and his friends, the result also pays warming and witty testimony to the value of reconfiguring one’s outlook. “I thought I might lose the realness in songwriting,” says Matt of his decision to steady his pitch. “I thought I’d have to surrender my edge and my shield. But if your best enemy is yourself, it's hard to be in a band with the same name."

What we think they sound like: I always liked Matt Pond PA and this new project is just as good. Great mellow indie folk meets Indie Pop meets Indie Rock. It's got a little bit of everything from the last 20 years from Clap Your Hands Say Yeah to Nada Surf and Death Cab all thrown into a blender to spit out really great songs. Every track is so well written from the music to the lyrics and vocal delivery. There's something more to these songs, they feel more mature, polished, and focused than what I've heard of Pond's previous music, however last time I heard his music was over a decade ago. But this is really a nice start to this project, aesthetically, musically, and overall.

BAND: LAURA LIZCANO

BloodMakesNoise Rating: 9.2/10

Genre: Indie Jazz, Latin Folk

What the band says they sound like: to close out Hispanic Heritage Month with release of bilingual album Daughter of the Sea, Colombian singer-songwriter releases collection of songs sung in both English and Spanish

What we think they sound like:  Laura Lizcano has a unique brand of folky jazz songwriting that blends everything from classic Astrud Gilberto to more modern tastes like Nora Jones. Her silky smooth voice works over virtually anything and makes her entire record enjoyable. She goes from traditional latin folk on "Caos" to bluesy jazz on "Fire" and both are done flawlessly.

BAND: DAVID WILSON & THE SUMMER HUSBANDS

BloodMakesNoise Rating:  10/10

Genre: Indie Folk, Soul, Indie Pop

What the band says they sound like: Former band Miss Ohio. “Drink Tickets”, his latest song chronicling musicianship and its highs and lows, once again showing the diversity of his writing and the storytelling within his craft.

What we think they sound like:  I've been following this band closely and they just don't make bad songs. It's like if you took Steely Dan and threw in some Spoon and other modern influence you'd have just an approximation. Any band person is going to especially relate to this track "Drink Tickets", Wilson is like the poet laureate of the indie rock scene turning something as mundane as extra drink tickets in a beautiful poetic moment about the struggle of the indie rock musician, or any musician for that matter. It's gonna speak to you on a deep level, check it out.

BAND: TURMALLINA

BloodMakesNoise Rating:  9.2/10

Genre: Post Punk, Indie Rock

What the band says they sound like:  No press release

What we think they sound like:  Shoredive Records doesn't disappoint, they have their sound and whether they have to scour the world to find it, they will. Today they bring us Turmallina from Bazil and it's noisey, loud 90's inspired Indie Rock that has bits of My Bloody Valentine and a lots of other Shoegaze elements. It's really great stuff if Shoegaze is your thing, unlike most Shoegaze though the vocal is more present and on top of the track and that's not necessarily a bad thing. On earlier releases Turmallina have more of a Cure feel but this newest release feels a little darker, but we like that around here.

BAND: JATK

BloodMakesNoise Rating:  9.1

Genre: Indie Rock, Indie Pop

What the band says they sound like:  Over the past few years, JATK’s debut album Shut Up And Be The Light came together as a purely collaborative affair. Matt Jatkola’s name sat atop the figurative masthead, but the songwriter, musician, and multi-instrumentalist led a creative vision that included many of his friends and colleagues, taking what appeared to be a solo record on the surface and exposing something far more communal and intimate with the peeling back of each sonic layer.

What we think they sound like:  JATK is a BMN favorite for years with his brand of Indie Folk Rock. This new track blends a bit of country twang with traditional Guided By Voices meets The New Pornographers type of chill indie rock. The song is a wonderful bit of pop songwriting that draws the listener in with it's infectious positive energy. Always a pleasure getting new JATK in our inbox!
