MEET SAN DIEGO INDIE POP ROCKER RICKY

Ricky is an American singer/songwriter living in San Diego, CA. That's the entirety of the bio that we received. What do we know about Ricky besides in one video he's smoking a joint using a hundred dollar bill as the rolling paper? I'd say he also makes great music that we enjoyed enough to want to get to know him. Seems Ricky is a man of few words so we'll let the music and questions below speak for themselves.

1. How did the band form and what does the band name mean?

Ricky is my name.

2. Previous musical projects? How'd you first get into music?

Western Settings, Hey Chels. I started playing drums when I was in the 6th grade.

3. First concert that you ever went to?

Propagandhi

4. What's your writing process like?

Very all over the place.

5. What other artists or songs inspire your music?

Joe Jackson, A Giant Dog, Parquet Courts, and Creedence Clearwater Revival are all things I’ve been listing to a bunch lately.  One fun thing that’s worth mentioning is just the genre of exotica, which is kind of a ridiculous thing that exists. It’s the music you hear in tiki bars. Shane(drummer) and myself kind of incorporated some of those vibes into the last two records. The intro in Pure Fun is literally just me trying to make my own weird thriller/horror/exotica track.

6. What's the live experience like and your philosophy on playing live? Do you think the music live should be identical to the recorded version or should it be it's own thing?

Live we play these songs pretty close to the recorded versions. We try to have fun with it. I don’t think it really matters if you do it exactly the same or different as long its done well and with feeling.

7. Has the band tour? What has the touring experience been, best shows?

We have been touring since everything re-opened after the pandemic. We are going back out at the end of January.

8. What's up next for the band?

Pure Fun was just released, We are going to tour and play shows on it. I started writing for the next LP which I think is going to be called Hurricane Lame.
