I don’t mind the components of this, great indie pop music and a vocal that is similar to Gordon Tracks of AIR. I could also see comparisons with this vocal to everything from Beirut to The Postal Service, but I’m sure some youngster could also come up with a ton of more modern similar voices. There is a keyboard riff that inserts a dissonant note bend, which might be the most interesting thing that happens here. It’s nice, it’s somewhat catchy and the jazz sax elements really help it along. This is one of those tracks that reminds me of like 15 other songs but isn’t spot on with any of them, so I suppose that is good that it takes influence from contemporaries while doing its own thing. At first it caught me as maybe a song that was one step away from being too pop for me but as the track drives on its vibe grew on me. I think this track has just enough weirdness and jazz influence in the instrumentation to keep me interested. It’s not surprising to me that Jordan Brooks played with Albert Hammond Jr., another underappreciated artist. This track's darkness is its strength, I would hope that the ominous feel is present in Brooks other work.
