My first comment about this is the vocal and what I was expecting are nothing alike. Think R&B if the vocalist from Silversun Pickups or Portugal The Man were singing. The first track is an interesting mix of indie pop and soul but I can’t help but notice in multiple spots some very weird harmony choices were made that almost make the vocal dissonant. Almost like it’s a rap track that isn’t paying attention to the key of the song or taking major liberties with it. Once I heard track 2 “Don’t Come Knockin” it seems everything on track 1 was very intentional because track 2 harkens back to a more classic 60’s soul sound and is just perfect. I suppose the only reason this isn’t track 1 is because the first track is a little more energetic but track 2 for me has a much cooler vibe. Overall I like the vibe, I like the songs, but I really love the more Elvis Costello feel of track 2 “Don’t Come Knockin” as opposed to the more modern “Don’t Call”.
