I’ll take Chris Matthews [Shudder to Think] & Kevin March [Guided By Voices] for $100 Alex.
All three of these tracks are catchy and have a 90’s sounding feel about them. Maybe because Matthew’s vocals sound a bit like Billy Corgan or Jeff McDonald of Redd Kross.
The songs are quick and to the point, and definitely have an edge to them. They’re tight, melodic, and “in the pocket”. [Think Samiam]
You can hear their Hardcore roots come through with hooks that echo the post-hardcore stylings of Walter Schreifel's Quicksand and group-shouted backing vocals.
“Geographic” is well-produced and worthy of repeat listens.
Quiz Show definitely has the skillset and the chops to construct a hit song. It’s just not on this EP and I’ll take Jill Hives over David Harvey any day.
