The first thing that strikes me when this track began was it’s so 70’s sounding that if I heard it on the radio I’d think I was listening to retro BeeGees or Seals & Croft. The strings and everything about it feel vintage without modern influence. This is actually a hard thing to accomplish when you consider how much new music we hear on a daily basis from movies and TV to commercials and ads that something remains pure 70’s pop, an odd era that not many musicians explore. Like St. Vincent explores funk on her new stuff with a strong 70’s influence but it still has something modern to it from tonality and synth sounds, etc. This feels like a great feat accomplished. As a fan of this kind of music from the era of Chicago and Steely Dan, I actually really like it. It seems folks in the UK have already caught onto why this artist is special, hopefully that translates for him.
