VON ANDERSSON NOISE SYSTEM: ECHOES
As this electro pop track starts it’s dark enough that it reminds me of something from the “Drive” soundtrack. The track naturally sounds a little gothy as the beat is reminiscent of something from Joy Division with a booming bass line, flickers of keyboards and a jangly guitar riff with enjoyable airy vocals. I like when bands sound modern but have influences that span decades. This band definitely feels like inspired by the early 80’s and New Order among others but it also exactly fits the current indiepop landscape. Looking forward to hearing more!
SALEM WOLVES: TURN TO GOLD
The song aint half bad but whoever did this video is pretty god damned talented. The new single by Salem Wolves has a cool energetic vibe to it, the groove is almost 80’s ish but with enough of a hard edge that it can be appreciated by Indie Rock, Punk and maybe even metal fans. The video though, very cool and it never repeats anything which is amazing, it’s gotta have like 10,000 drawings or more to make it through 4 full minutes of psychedelic imagery. That or they hid very well how they cut corners to make this not on a major label budget. Not to take anything away from the band, the song really is solid but the video makes it all the more impressive. Take a look:
JINU KONDA: BELIEVER
It’s always weird when someone with what I assume is a Japanese name has a track that starts off like Johnny Cash’s “Sooner Or Later God’s Gonna Cut You Down” but yet here we are. It’s pretty damn good too as someone who has a deep appreciation for classic and outlaw country acts. The deep grizzled voice was not what I was expecting. The overly distorted vocal actually works really well to give the track a certain warmth and different tonal quality then the very clean acoustic guitar that streams throughout. The drums may be a sample but the simple stomp clap pattern is all this track really needs to carry it. Great stuff and overall vibe, I highly approve.
WOMEN OF THE NIGHT: STIR CRAZY
The third track on the upcoming album, "Sub Rosa", is a surreal and hypnotic song. "Stir crazy" tells a story of emotional unrest, featuring a griping and haunting video, transporting the mind to some dark and brooding place. Inspiringly poetic lyrics, and an enigmatic sound atmosphere, many blues pop bands such as The White Stripes and Frank Black and the Catholics come to mind.
