What's New In Our Inbox! Sweethearts, aBIRD, Ceara Cavalieri, Joe Pug, Eric Hilton, Special/Sexy/Sleazy

Our inbox is over flowing again so we are letting you good people know exactly what is new and available out there in the music world. This week we have an interesting mix and I have to say Eric Hilton was a highlight! Trip Hop is definitely my thing, lots of other cool stuff to from Pop to Punk. Hope you find your new favorite band today. Also, very important note, I am not the end all be all, I just might not be in the mood for your music or maybe I'm totally in the mood for what you sent us, doesn't really mean much. These are solely one persons musical opinions and the one thing you can be sure of is they are honest and we could give two shits what your socials and spotify numbers say or how popular you are on TikTok.

BAND: SWEETHEARTS

BloodMakesNoise Rating: 8.8/10

Genre: Post Punk, Indie Rock

What the band says they sound like: Pavement, Pixies, Cocteau Twins and Weezer

What we think they sound like:  The first band that came to mind when I heard the melody of this was Grandaddy but I can hear the other comparisons as well. Like the Pixies there is the loud quiet dynamic and the while verses have that low effort Stephen Malkmus delivery the choruses have a Frank Black type shout aspect to them.

Songs to add to your playlist: The Handling Of A Horse

BAND:  aBIRD

BloodMakesNoise Rating:  9.5/10

Genre:  Indie Pop, Indie Rock, Electro Indie

What the band says they sound like:  David Bowie, Massive Attack, Radiohead and Air, Ex-Those Mockingbirds

What we think they sound like:  Very cool Indie Pop with a hint of Nine Inch Nails and enthusiastically cynical lyrics. Mostly released as singles that follow up their debut LP, the singles all sound great and show the artists growth over the last few years. Hoping for a more substantial release soon so we can get our fill!

Songs to add to your playlist: Marble Moufff, NLGHTN, Nothing Like Us

BAND:  CEARA CAVALIERI

BloodMakesNoise Rating:  6.5/10

Genre:  Top 40 Pop

What the band says they sound like:  pop rock singer/songwriter

What we think they sound like:  Trying to catch the Olivia Rodrigo train but isn't quite well produced enough. It's catchy if you enjoy syrupy sweet stuff. It's like all the components are there to make something good but it comes across as just that same melody and harmony we've heard a couple billion times from Kelly Clarkson to Ariana Grande. Please go to a record store and ask some old fat dude to give you the best albums from the last 40 years and then go listen carefully. Be Juliana Hatfield, Liz Phair, Billie Eilish, Stevie Nicks, Debbie Harry or like a billion other really awesome females who had a similar message and had great delivery.

Songs to add to your playlist: Used

BAND:  JOE PUG

BloodMakesNoise Rating:  6.5/10

Genre:  Country Twang, Indie Folk

What the band says they sound like:  contributions by Brandon Flowers (The Killers), Derry deBorja (Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit), Carl Broemel (My Morning Jacket)

What we think they sound like:  This is good for what it is, singer songwriter stuff that is folky but with a country feel. However as someone who listens to lots of different music, it just doesn't have the indie sensibility of Wilco or the danger of Johnny Cash or the heart of Rocky Votolato. I'm not saying anything negative, it just didn't wow me. I feel like especially on Hymn #35 I wanted a big chorus that I never get. I love harmonica but seriously add some slide guitar and some violin doing that same riff instead of harmonica on every track. (granted I only heard a few songs)

Songs to add to your playlist: Nation of Heat, Hymn #35

BAND:  ERIC HILTON

BloodMakesNoise Rating:  10/10

Genre:  Trip Hop, Experimental

What the band says they sound like:  classic, experimental trip-hop record

What we think they sound like:  I think this has shades of Tricky, Massive Attack and Portishead and I'm here for it. This is killer stuff. I feel like every track is going to be on a playlist for me! This has the best groove to every track and tones that just are so sonically soothing that I can't say enough good things. This feels like it could have been from the 90's but it also has such a modern feel as well, a mix of contemporary jazz, soul, break beats and more!

Songs to add to your playlist:  Lost Dialect, Spiral Aura, Ra>, Flowering Soul, Oysseus, Earth Ship

BAND:  SPECIAL/SEXY/SLEAZY

BloodMakesNoise Rating:  8.9/10

Genre: Post Punk, Indie Rock

What the band says they sound like:  Pinkerton, Funeral, Slaughterhouse. Break downs, and build ups.

What we think they sound like:  This definitely has some 90's influence but comes across as a very original project because of the punk attitude. You can kind of hear everything from The Flaming Lips to Weezer with bits of Cake, Pixies, Wax and more. The video is weird enough to entice new listeners as well. The actual album also feels very eclectic song by song as well as within each track. If you are up for stuff that is definitely not the norm, then check this out!

Songs to add to your playlist: Vitamins, Ataraxia, Your Medications Pt. 2
