Montreal trio Hush have officially released their debut album, For Dolly, through Simone Records. Blending psychedelic pop, dream-pop, trip-hop, and kosmische influences, the record introduces listeners to the band's immersive sound while exploring themes of identity, memory, and perception.
Made up of vocalist Paige Barlow and multi-instrumentalists Miles Dupire-Gagnon and Gabriel Lambert, Hush have built a style that combines shimmering guitars, textured synths, and hypnotic rhythms with strong melodic songwriting. Throughout For Dolly, the band balances rich production with memorable hooks, creating an album that feels both atmospheric and accessible.
The album follows the release of the singles “The Mirrors Were Right,” “Phasing,” and “Funhouse,” which helped introduce Hush's unique musical direction ahead of the full release. Each song highlights a different side of the band's sound while contributing to the album's larger concept.
Across its tracklist, For Dolly examines changing perspectives and the way people understand themselves and the world around them. Mirrors appear throughout the record as a recurring symbol, representing reflection, transformation, and uncertainty. Rather than telling one continuous story, the album invites listeners to interpret its songs through their own experiences.
Songs such as “Phasing” and “The Mirrors Were Right” blend dreamy textures with driving rhythms, while “Funhouse” pushes further into experimental territory through layered arrangements and shifting song structures. Closing track “Saturnday” brings the album to a gentle finish, allowing its themes to slowly fade while maintaining its immersive atmosphere.
For Dolly was produced by Miles Dupire-Gagnon alongside René Wilson and recorded at both Phasing Fun Studio and Gamma Studios in Montreal. The production combines analog recording techniques with modern studio tools, giving the album a warm, detailed sound that matches its psychedelic style.
With For Dolly, Hush deliver a confident debut that introduces their creative vision while establishing a strong foundation for the future. Rich with layered production, thoughtful songwriting, and dreamlike soundscapes, the album showcases a band unafraid to blur musical boundaries while inviting listeners into a world where reality and imagination comfortably exist side by side.
