Boston indie band The Northern Line bring Britpop swagger, dancefloor energy, and hopeful songwriting together on their vibrant self-titled debut EP.
Boston indie band The Northern Line have officially released their self-titled debut EP, a four-song burst of groove-heavy alternative rock inspired by Britpop, Madchester, shoegaze, and classic indie dance music. Built around soaring melodies, pulsing rhythms, and an unmistakable sense of optimism, the release introduces a band determined to bring euphoria back to modern guitar music.
Named after the famous London Underground route, The Northern Line channel decades of UK alternative music through a distinctly American perspective. Across the EP, the group mixes jangling guitars, hypnotic rhythms, psychedelic textures, and danceable energy into songs that feel equally suited for sweaty clubs, late-night drives, and packed festival crowds.
Leading the release is new single “Let’s Roll On,” a fast-moving anthem about pushing through anxiety and exhaustion while staying hopeful about the future. The song combines baggy-inspired grooves with shimmering guitars and expansive melodies, capturing the same uplifting energy that runs throughout the entire record.
Frontman and lyricist Bilvox described the EP as a celebration of freedom, resilience, and embracing possibility. Those themes appear across earlier singles “Lightning Strikes” and “Throw A Fist,” both of which helped establish the band as one of Boston’s fastest-rising indie acts over the past year. While the music nods heavily toward the sounds of Manchester and London in the late ’80s and early ’90s, the songwriting stays focused on modern uncertainty and the search for connection in difficult times.
The EP also includes “Out In The Drift,” a slower and more expansive psych-rock track that explores toxic relationships and emotional recovery through swirling instrumentation and a gradual emotional build. Together, the four songs create a record that feels tightly focused but emotionally wide open.
The Northern Line features Bilvox on vocals and rhythm guitar alongside Pete Kitchener, Joshh Magee, McG, Mike Ackley, and Carrie Ingber. The EP was produced and engineered by McG at Studio Lockland in Massachusetts.
Fans of Primal Scream, The Stone Roses, and Pulp will likely connect with The Northern Line’s mix of swagger, melody, and dancefloor momentum.
