The Magic City Release Self-Titled Debut Album With Grit and Shine

Boston modern rock band delivers a bold first record built on contrast, melody, and layered energy.

The Magic City have officially released their self-titled debut album today, May 22, marking a major moment for the Boston-based band. Available across digital, vinyl, and CD formats, the record introduces a sound that blends grit and polish, moving between tension and release with a clear sense of purpose.

Built around 10 tracks, The Magic City pulls from a wide range of rock styles. Elements of Britpop, glam, post-punk, power-pop, and indie rock come together in a mix that feels both familiar and fresh. The band leans into strong melodies while surrounding them with textured guitars, steady rhythms, and a sense of scale that gives the album a full and expansive feel.

The record’s tone shifts often, balancing softer moments with louder, more direct sections. Songs like “Ozma Is My Shadow” highlight this push and pull, combining sharp guitar work with a driving rhythm and a sense of movement that carries through the album. Other tracks explore different angles, from the tense energy of “New Eyes” to the wide, closing feel of “Lost at Sea.”

The lineup includes Adam Anderson on lead guitar and vocals, David Jackel on vocals, guitar, and synth, Ken Marcou on drums, and Mike Quinn on bass and vocals. Each member brings a distinct approach, and the collaborative process plays a key role in shaping the final sound. The result is a record that feels detailed without losing its direct impact.

Lyrically, the album centers on themes of renewal and transformation. Ideas of change, escape, and self-reflection run throughout the songs, giving the record a sense of forward motion. The writing focuses less on outside commentary and more on internal shifts, creating a tone that feels personal but open to interpretation.

The band’s name reflects its identity. The Magic City is imagined as a blend of Boston and London, and that mix shows up in the music’s style and mood. It draws from past influences while aiming to build something that stands on its own.

With their debut album now out, The Magic City step forward with a clear statement. The record captures a band focused on balance, energy, and connection, offering a sound that moves between extremes while staying grounded at its core.
