Boston alt-rock duo Arrows of Athena released their soaring new single “Comets” on February 20 via Belhaven Records. The track is the latest preview of their sophomore album Daydreaming, which arrives April 3.
Known for their high-energy electronica style rooted in ‘90s-coded alternative rock, Arrows of Athena take a bold turn with “Comets.” The song draws inspiration from the story of Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin, the French widow who took over her late husband’s wine business in the early 1800s and became known worldwide as Madame Clicquot. Her drive and refusal to back down shape the emotional core of the track.
“Comets” feels cinematic and expansive. Thunderous dance beats pulse under layers of synth and heavy guitar. The verses build with tension before opening into a wide, melodic chorus that glides over glossy production. The sound merges alt-pop sheen with gritty alternative rock textures, creating a track that feels both modern and dramatic.
The single follows “Abandoned Love” and “Just You And Me,” both of which also appear on Daydreaming. While the band’s 2024 debut album The Ghost Archives centered on loss and darker themes, the new record shifts toward storytelling and emotional growth. “Comets” stands as one of the most ambitious songs in the duo’s catalog, pushing their electronic backbone into bigger, louder territory.
Arrows of Athena consists of Jac-Lyn Gibson on vocals and visuals, and Scott Lerner on guitar, bass, synth, and drum programming. The pair recorded and mixed “Comets” at Monza Studio throughout 2024. Lerner engineered the track, and both members handled production.
The band recently made their live debut at Wave Radio Boston’s On The Record showcase in Lowell, expanding the project beyond the studio. What began as a post-pandemic collaboration has evolved into a full creative universe built on bold sound and striking imagery.
With “Comets” now out and Daydreaming set for release in April, Arrows of Athena continue to fuse cinematic alt-rock with layered electronic drive, reaching for something larger than nostalgia and aiming squarely at the sky.
