Phoenix Hardcore Heavyweights OVERSTAND Unleash Debut Album Take Control

Phoenix, Arizona’s rising hardcore juggernaut OVERSTAND have officially released their debut full-length Take Control — out now and already turning heads across the underground. Blending metallic aggression with classic New York-style hardcore grit, the record delivers ten blistering tracks that channel the chaos, unity, and fury that define the genre’s golden age.

Formed in 2020 during the isolation of the pandemic, Overstand emerged with one goal — to bring back the uncompromising spirit of true hardcore. What began as a handful of demos written in lockdown has evolved into one of the most explosive debuts in recent memory. Following their self-titled EP (24 Hour Catastrophe in Europe via Conviction Records), Take Control expands the attack — faster, heavier, and more relentless than ever before.

The band’s lineup is a hardcore supergroup in its own right, featuring veterans of Warzone, Roger Miret and The Disasters, Vision, District 9, Casket Life, and North Side Kings. Each member brings decades of scene experience, welded together through sheer intensity and mutual respect. The result is a sound steeped in tradition but played with a modern ferocity — tight grooves, metallic riffs, and gang vocals that hit like a battering ram.

Overstand have already proven themselves a force onstage, sharing bills with Suicidal Tendencies, Sheer Terror, Ignite, Death by Stereo, and Kill Your Idols, as well as blowing the roof off Arizona’s Marquee Theatre earlier this summer. Their live shows are pure combustion — no gimmicks, no nostalgia, just sweat, speed, and sincerity.

Visually, Take Control pays homage to hardcore’s deep visual lineage, featuring artwork by Mick Lambrou (Agnostic Front, Slapshot) and Steven Huie (Madball, Crown of Thornz, Sick of It All). It’s a record that looks and sounds like the genre’s raw essence — unpolished, unfiltered, and unapologetic.

With bassist Roy Valencia also holding down low-end duties for The Outlaw Vinnie Stigma (alongside members of The Aggrolites and Gogol Bordello), Overstand are more than just a band — they’re a bridge between eras. Take Control is both a declaration and a dare: real hardcore never died, it just got louder.
