WHAT'S IN OUR INBOX! WAKELEE, DIGNAN PORCH, STATUES, NEWSKI W/ MATTHEW CAWS, SAN TROPEZ

Our inbox is over flowing again so we are letting you good people know exactly what is new and available out there in the music world. This week we are a little heavy white dudes who make indie rock, but that's ok because this list is filled with quite a few bangers!  If you want to see your band on one of these lists, send us streaming music and as short bio.

Band Name: Wakelee

BMN Score: 9.1/10

What the band says they sound like: Alex says, "Mood Rings is inspired by the feeling of not knowing how to feel after something bad happens and the general processing of emotions."

What we say they sound like:  This is a really fun mix of Indie Folk/ Indie Rock and just a little bit of Emo. When the trumpet kicks in the song starts to take on a Spoon like Aesthetic mixing genre's to create a pop gem. The electro elements help to keep the song interesting all the way through to the last second. These guys get it, you need to win your audience instantly these days and once their hooked you gotta hold on by keeping it interesting and Wakelee does that!

Band Name: Dignan Porch

BMN Score: 10/10

What the band says they sound like: I wanted to drop a line and let you know about the new album from Dignan Porch (UK).Electric Threads will be out on 2/10/23, co-released by Repeating Cloud, Hidden Bay, and Safe Suburban Home.Recommended for fans of jangly psych-pop!

What we say they sound like:  Ok, if I was starting a band in 2023 this is what I would like to sound like. This is catchy simple songwriting with unique complex twists. It seems simple at first but the changes from part to part of the song are quite original and really give this artist something memorable about them. This song from moment is an earworm, the kind of song you can listen to 20 times in a row and not get sick of. The vocals are almost otherwordly as every word is harmonized. The guitars have a warm fuzziness that allows you to really crank the volume. Loving this.

Band Name: Statues

BMN Score: 8.9/10

What the band says they sound like: Yung Lean's song Agony is a both beautiful and sad great tune, with spaced out lyrics. The nice melodies were taken from the strange piano to guitars and we played it at a high tempo. It felt important to choose a cover whose style is far from ours, and we succeeded quite well with that. We wanted the song to sound like it was written in 1991 by Archers of Loaf or Seam.

What we say they sound like:  This band may be from Sweden but they have this sound that is very New Jersey 1998 and that's a really cool thing. This is driving post punk that has that great mix of punky driving alt rock along with a gravelly rough voice that melts in your ears like butter. You know a song is great when it ends and you are saying to yourself “oh man, that's all?”. I must have listened about 8 times and each time I kept upping their song score. This may resonate more with the old dudes but they aren't wrong, this is good music!

Band Name: Newski w/ Matthew Caws

BMN Score: 10/10

What the band says they sound like: A revival of 90’s alternative, Wisconsin's lo-fi alternative geek rock outfit NEWSKI outfit  enlists a friend/musical influence on every track for their forthcoming LP.  enlists a friend/musical influence on every track for their forthcoming LP.

What we say they sound like:  This is very 90's but in the best way possible. Matthew Caws is the perfect guest for this song as it has the energy of some of Nada Surf's more punky numbers like “Hyperspace” or “Happy Kid”. The main vocal has very Tom Petty / Bob Dylan feel but over poppy post punk indie rock and we are here for it. It's clear to see why this guys resume of who he's played with reads like a best of playlist we would typically run here. This is something you will be hearing more about on all your regular indie news spots.

Band Name: San Tropez

BMN Score: 9.8/10

What the band says they sound like: Shoegaze, dream pop, and indie rock, Slowdive, Ride, Film School, Swervedriver, A Place To Bury Strangers

What we say they sound like:  This track hits like a mix of The Cure meets My Bloody Valentine and in the best way possible. It has a Pretenders vibe to the main riff but overall this band has an aesthetic that is just so ear pleasing. Every track has either catchy pop elements of the 80's and 90's or like some of the heavier album tracks it's a wall of sound that has elements of Mission Of Burma as odd swishes of delay and noise swirl around the main melodies. San Tropez have been scene guys for a long time with members of the band having played in Aviso'Hara,  Wreaths and The Stuntcocks but what took so long to put together this wonderful project!
